Introduction to Dementia

With the abundance of the different types of Dementia, it is not enough for your Doctor to simply diagnose you with the generalized term of “Dementia”.

Dementia is a symptom of an underlying disease. Dementia that occurs in Alzheimer’s manifests very differently than dementia in Parkinson’s realm.

Also, please make sure your doctor has ruled out hearing loss. Hearing loss can mask itself as dementia, as an individual cannot recall what they do not hear.

It is imperative for testing to check all areas of the cognitive domain to provide a correct diagnosis. Diagnosis leads to the proper interdisciplinary team approach for management.
